"We are guided toward becoming harmonious and integrative whole being, and our health challenges, crises and conflicts can be considered part of the teleological or purposive process of growth and development instead of merely as accidental or coincidental forms of pathology."

- Dr. Carl G. Jung

How Does Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Work?

1. Improves Blood and Lymph circulation, Removing blocks for the body's own Self-healing Power to do the Healing it is continuously meant to do:  for example balancing and improving Blood chemistry with an effect of dilating or constricting blood vessels. This may be caused by the body's release of Vasodilators, such as Histamine, in response to Acupuncture.

2. Strengthens, Harmonizes and Amplifies Immune system: Acupuncture raises levels of specific hormones, prostaglandins, white blood counts, gamma globulin's and overall anti-body levels and anti-inflammatories.

3. Stimulate body's own Endorphin production: Acupuncture stimulates the secretions of endorphins (the body's own natural opiates) which can result in fast pain relief and naturally increased sensation of well-being.  Acupuncture can help mitigate the very dangerous current epidemic of opiate pain medication addiction.

4. Regulates Neurotransmitters to alleviate mood and stress related conditions: Acupuncture stimulates  the Central Nervous system and regulates certain Neurotransmitters, such as Serotonin and Noradrenalin, which counteract Anxiety, Depression, Insomnia and numerous other Stress-Related conditions.

5. Gate Control: Reducing Nervous System pain transmission signals. Acupuncture closes certain nerve gates by strategically overloading them with impulses, which has the paradoxical effect of reducing their pain transmission signals to the brain.

6. Often possible to treat more than one symptom at a time because Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine treat the whole person: For example, a patient came to Adam primarily for severe knee pain. She also had dry eyes, blurry vision and was unable to read for years. No eye MD could help her.  As a result, she did not expect any improvement with her eyes. After one Acupuncture session, not only was her knee pain greatly reduced, but she was all of a sudden able to read again. (See Testimonial Gertrude B.)  Chinese Herbal Formulas for Back or Knee pain will not only alleviate or remove the Pain itself, but often also increase energy level, sexual stamina and digestion, because there is one underlying pattern behind all these seemingly disparate symptoms., and energetic meridians connecting them all. All can be accomplished simultaneously with one herbal formula, diet habit corrections and individually tailored Acupuncture treatment , providing true relief and improvement of overall well being.

7. "It is more important to understand the imbalances in your body's basic systems & restore balance, rather than name the disease and match the pill to the ill."       M.Hyman MD

As it has become increasingly common knowledge, long-term and/or regular dependency on certain pharmaceutical drugs are ranging from controversial to problematic to even seriously dangerous. A few examples include the following:

* NSAID's aspirin & acetaminophen: Number One cause for GI bleeding, 51 % liver failure, 15th Leading cause

of death - "silent epidemic"

* Cox-2 inhibitors - created to circumvent GI bleeding of NSAID's side effects, leading to heart attack/stroke

* Cortisone - Permanently weakens joint by thinning cartilage, contributes to obesity & high blood pressure

* Chronic Opioid use for pain management can lead to addiction that contains serious dangers and side effects.

* Surgery is by far more expensive, invasive and risky than Acupuncture and Holistic Medicine.

The use of one drug can lead to side effects that require counteraction with a second drug, which can be followed with more side effects requiring third and forth medication and so forth. Today it is not uncommon to become dependent on ten or more pharmaceuticals. In contrast with Acupuncture & Holistic Health we have a risk free and non-invasive possibility.

  • Do not exercise or do any activity that increases your heart rate at least 2 hours prior to your treatment.

Your Initial Visit

Following a free, 15-minute phone consultation, your initial visit will be spent discussing the details of the intake form (i.e., your health history questionnaire) that you previously emailed to us. These details include past and current illnesses and symptoms, and the impacts stress or uncomfortable emotions have on you. Your dietary, mental, and lifestyle habits have significant impact on your health. You will also be questioned on how you experience your symptoms, their particular patterns, and the factors that affect them. These include weather, movement, and time of the day. For example, ten people with similar symptoms may have different underlying patterns and will require different treatment principles. An examination of your tongue and pulse will also be integrated. All these will be used to come up with an initial diagnosis, which will be the basis of your first acupuncture treatment. We will then explain how acupuncture works and the wide variety of benefits it can offer. In your subsequent visits (should they be deemed necessary), we will create a highly individualized treatment determined by the root cause(s) of your condition.  If your commitment is solid, you should soon experience significant alleviation of your symptoms, most likely in conjunction with positive and unexpected benefits. Your first visit can last up to an hour and a half. Subsequent visits and follow-ups are usually shorter, approximately 40 -60 minutes.

After the Session

After the treatment, you will feel very relaxed and refreshed.

Following your session immediately with high-energy activities is not recommended although your body will experience improved energy and blood circulation. If one or more locations of your body become a little sore, this is completely normal. What this means is that healing is ongoing and your body is working toward homeostasis.

Everything will be explained to you. We believe in comprehensive patient education. As such, we take the time to explain what’s happening to your body during your session. We’re happy to answer any and all questions you may have before, during, or after your treatment.
